The Ultimate Positano Travel Guide (for Travelers in Their 30s)

If you’re planning a trip to Positano and want a guide that covers everything you need—hotels, food, activities, transportation, and insider tips—this is it. Designed specifically for travelers in their 30's with a medium budget who love a mix of good food, culture, and chill vibes.

Where to Stay in Positano

Positano is full of stairs and steep hills, so location matters. The city center can get very crowded, especially mid-day. I highly recommend staying on the far west or east sides for a calmer, more relaxed experience. Bonus: that’s also where you’ll find the best restaurants.

🏨 Il San Pietro di Positano - $$$$

  • Location: Far west (Laurito area)

  • Distance to City Center: ~1.1 miles (hotel offers 24/7 shuttle)

  • Vibe: Luxury cliffside retreat with a private beach and Michelin-star dining. Great for couples or a splurge night.

🏨 Hotel Marincanto - $$$

  • Location: Just east of the main center

  • Distance to City Center: ~5-minute walk

  • Vibe: Romantic, classic Positano with amazing views and infinity pool. Great for first-timers.

🏨 Hotel Principe Giovanni - $$

  • Location: Slightly east side

  • Distance to City Center: ~10-minute walk

  • Vibe: Boutique, good value, and quiet with some stairs to access.

🏨 Hotel Conca D'Oro - $$$

  • Location: West (above Fornillo beach)

  • Distance to City Center: ~15-minute walk

  • Vibe: Romantic 4-star hotel with great views and a peaceful location.

🏨 Villa Anfitrite - $$

  • Location: Upper east side

  • Distance to City Center: ~10-15 minute walk

  • Vibe: B&B-style with modern rooms and incredible balcony views. You’ll be climbing stairs, but the reward is worth it.

Apartment Option

  • Here’s a great Airbnb we stayed at — calm, clean, and just far enough from the chaos, you will have to climb some steps though!

Getting There (and Back!)

Private Transfer

The best way to get to Amalfi is by booking a private transfer—it's the most convenient, stress-free option, especially with the winding roads and limited public transport. We use Positano Taxi Transfer. Let them know Your Scenic Route sent you for a discount!

Insider Tip:

Ask your driver to stop at Pompeii for an hour and then visit Mount Vesuvius for a wine tasting + lunch on your way back to Rome. It may sound touristy, but it was one of our absolute favorite days. Let Positano Taxi Transfer know you'd like to do this route!

Final Tips

  • There are a lot of stairs. Think of it as a scenic stairmaster workout.

  • Avoid the city center mid-day; it’s the most crowded and chaotic.

  • Stay on the edges of town (far west or east) for peace and better restaurants.

  • Pack light, wear good walking shoes, and embrace the coastal lifestyle.

This guide is your all-in-one ticket to an unforgettable Positano trip. From local eats to practical logistics, you’re all set.

Enjoy La Dolce Vita — and don’t forget the Aperol Spritz!
