Cape Cod Summer Guide

I just got back from the most amazing girls' trip to Cape Cod with my sisters, our adorable new niece, my mom's bestie, and her daughter! We packed three full days in Falmouth and explored practically the whole Cape, and honestly, it was the best time. I'm already dreaming of going back! Below is the ultimate Cape Cod Summer Guide to use for your next trip.

Our Home Base: Falmouth

We decided to plant ourselves in Falmouth for the trip, and it was the perfect spot. However, next time I definitely want to stay near Chatham. If you do end up in Flamouth, it’s a quick ferry ride to Martha’s Vineyard which we did in an afternoon! Falmouth has such a relaxed vibe, beautiful scenery, and made it super easy to hop around to other towns. (Definitely recommend a rental car).

Town Hopping Adventures:

Even though we stayed in Falmouth, we made sure to soak in the charm of other iconic Cape towns:

  • Chatham: We spent a lovely afternoon strolling down Main Street, peeking into the cute shops, and of course, saw the famous lighthouse! Such a classic Cape Cod feel. We did spend about 4 hours sipping rose on at Chatham Bars Inn, which was my favorite part of the trip. I could live there.

  • Provincetown: This place was a total vibe! So much art, quirky shops, and a really fun energy at the very tip of the Cape.

  • Hyannis: It was fun to see the action of the harbor and imagine hopping on a ferry to the islands.

  • Sandwich: We loved exploring the oldest town on the Cape, it felt like stepping back in time with all its history.

  • Orleans: Being so close to the National Seashore, we had to check out the stunning coastline here.

Cute Inn Vibes (Though We Nabbed an Airbnb!):

While we ended up in a super comfy Airbnb (highly recommend that option too!), we did spot some adorable inns that are on my list for next time:

  • Captain's House Inn (Chatham): This is the quintessential choice for classic New England charm. Housed in a beautifully preserved 1839 mansion, it's perfect for those seeking a historic and elegant stay.

  • Land's End Inn (Provincetown): For breathtaking ocean vistas and a stay that feels both luxurious and artistic, this inn is unparalleled. The uniquely decorated rooms and cliffside location offer a truly memorable experience.

  • Wequassett Resort (Harwich): While a resort, it offers an exclusive, high-end experience that is perfect for a special occasion. Its immaculate grounds and refined coastal setting are second to none.

  • Salt House Inn (Provincetown): This is the go-to for a modern and stylish take on a Cape Cod inn. It's a design-forward option that blends contemporary comfort with a fresh, relaxed feel.

  • Chatham Wayside Inn (Chatham): Perfectly situated in the heart of Chatham's vibrant downtown, this inn offers both historic charm and unbeatable access to the best shops and restaurants.

Sipping with a View (Because Girls' Trip!):

We definitely made time for some drinks with a view because that’s what Cape Cod is all about.

  • Chatham Bars Inn (Chatham): If you’ve done any research so far, you know this is the place to go. Protip: Get there at 2:30 and grab a drink from the inside bar and take it outside on the terrace, that way you will definitely have a spot when the outdoor bar opens at 3 PM. We stayed for HOURS and I still didn’t want to leave. This spot is exactly what you think of when you picture Cape Cod!

  • Cape Cod Winery (Falmouth): Since we were staying in Falmouth, this was a must! Such a relaxing setting. I also won bingo here!

  • The Rooftop at Pelham House Resort (Dennis Port): The only rooftop bar on the Cape so we had to check it out. The views are amazing.

  • Brax Landing Restaurant (Harwich Port): Great spot to watch the boats go by.

  • Sesuit Harbor Cafe (Dennis): You can't beat picnic tables by the water and amazing, fresh seafood.

  • The Beachcomber (Wellfleet): A legendary beachfront bar right on the dunes, perfect for sunsets and a casual vibe.

Where to get your seafood and lobster roll:

We fueled our adventures with some seriously delicious seafood:

  • Water Street Kitchen (Falmouth): This is a standout choice for those staying in Falmouth. With a menu focused on seasonal ingredients and expertly prepared seafood, it's a frequent and fantastic stop for a high-quality meal.

  • Barking Claw (Falmouth): This is a lobster roll stand that had the best lobster roll we had the whole trip!!! It was so fresh and well-priced. We ordered lobster rolls then took them to the beach along with a $1 bag of Cape Cod chips and a crisp Coke!

  • The Lobster Pot (Provincetown): A true Cape Cod institution. This classic spot is celebrated for its incredible lobster and other seafood, all served with quintessential bay views that enhance the dining experience.

  • Impudent Oyster (Chatham): A popular spot known for its creative and fresh seafood dishes.

  • Mac's Chatham Fish & Lobster (Chatham): Offering both a market and restaurant, guaranteeing the freshest catches.

  • Sesuit Harbor Cafe (Dennis): A classic, no-frills shack famous for its lobster rolls and waterfront picnic tables.

Our Cape Cod Tips:

  • Go between Memorial Day and Labor Day: Yes, it’s busier and yes, a bit more expensive, but there is nothing like summer on the Cape. Just make sure to book your restaurants early and you’ll be fine. Nothing was overwhelming except for exploring Main Street in Chatham when we were shopping on a gloomy day (since no one was at the beach).

  • Book Your Stay ASAP: Places book up fast! We planned a bit ahead, and even then, some spots were already filling up.

  • Get a Car: You absolutely need a rental car to really explore all the different towns and hidden gems.

  • Flying into Boston is Easy: We flew into Boston Logan and the drive down to the Cape was super straightforward.

This girls' trip to Cape Cod was exactly what we needed girl time, beautiful scenery, baby snuggles, and some great food. I'm already counting down the days until my next visit. Have you been to the Cape? What are your favorite memories? Share them below!
